Council Finalizes Budget, Cuts an Additional $600,000 from Education Budget

Council Republicans cut $600,000 from the education budget on Tuesday, March 31.  The only reason given was to make the overall budget “manageable”.  If the entire $600,000 was cut from staff it would mean seven additional teachers and one administrator would be let go.

Republican councilors Campbell, Clay, Kopec, Motola, Wakefield and Lehman voted to cut the $600,000 from the education budget.  Republican councilor Peterson was absent.  Republican councilor Appleyard attended the meeting, left the room before the vote on cutting the $600,000 was held, and then returned to the meeting after the vote.

Democratic councilors Gingras, Letendre, Schaefer and Winkler voted against cutting $600,000 from the education budget.
